Wikimania, the annual conference of the Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, was held in Montreal, Canada during August 11–13, 2017. Sailesh Patnaik and Subhashish Panigrahi of O Foundation were awarded Wikimania scholarships this year for their contribution to Wikimedia projects, participated in this event, and divided their time discussing about First Nations language Wikimedia projects in a panel at BAnQ Vieux-Montréal, conducting a workshop on audio recording tool for Wiktionary and two lightning talks, and setting up a booth at the community village in collaboration with Odia Wikimedians User Group, and Wikitongues. and contributed towards several workshops and talks. The Odia Wikimedians User Group, Wikitongues, and we together set up a booth in the Wikimania Community Village. Our participation at Wikimania 2017:

Subhashish Panigrahi is one of the founding members of O Foundation, and founded OpenSpeaks which won him the MJ Bear Fellowship and a grant from National Geographic to digitally-document threatened languages.

As an educator and community manager he has led many research, campus, and community outreach and catalyst activities across Asia Pacific at Internet Society, Mozilla, Centre for Internet and Society, and Wikimedia Foundation.

Winner of the 2015 Opensource.com People’s Choice Award, and awarded as "Wikimedia Advocate and Expert" by Opensource.com in 2016. Speaker at TEDx and many international Open Source/knowledge conferences across 11 countries. Author of "Rising Voices: Digital Language Activism" “Digital Activism in Asia Reader”, and a few hundred posts on major global blogs.
